India, March 15 -- T hat "healthy" snack before a workout might actually slow you down. If you've ever felt sluggish or bloated halfway through a workout, the problem might lie in what you ate beforehand. Celebrity fitness trainer Siddhartha Singh, who trains actor Tamannaah Bhatia, recently shared why certain common foods can sabotage gym performance. According to Singh, the purpose of a pre-workout meal is to provide steady energy. Foods that take longer to digest force the body to spend more energy processing them rather than powering muscles during exercise. Singh cautioned against consuming fried foods before a workout because of their high fat content. These foods take longer to digest and can leave you feeling heavy and lethargic. "These are the three worst foods before your workout. The first food you should be avoiding is fried foods. Fried foods are high in fat, so they slow down digestion," he said in the video, adding that such meals can make people feel sleepy rather than energised during training. While foods like salads are widely considered healthy, Singh says they may not be suitable immediately before exercise. High-fibre foods can cause bloating and digestive discomfort, which may affect performance. "The second type of food you should avoid is high-fibre foods. Salad is healthy, but not before the gym. High-fibre foods will cause bloating," he explained. Singh also warned against consuming high-sugar foods before training. Though they may provide a quick burst of energy, they often result in a sudden drop in energy levels soon after. "These are going to give you a kick of energy when you eat them. But as soon as you reach the gym, energy crash," he said. For better workout performance, Singh recommends a balanced pre-workout meal that focuses on easily digestible nutrients. He suggests foods that are high in carbs, moderate in protein, and low in fat and fibre so the body gets steady energy without digestive strain....
