Shweta Tripathi: Love eating the kanjak food on Navratri

ctor Shweta Tripathi is excited as Navratri begins today. The nine-day festival not only gives the actor a chance to eat light vegetarian food but also to indulge in lip-smacking halwa, poori and chane during Kanjak. It is a Hindu ritual of worshipping young girls as the manifestation of Goddess Durga.
Going down memory lane, she tells us, "Kanjak ke din we used to go ghar-ghar (hopping houses), and some houses even gave money, and imagine going and getting food and money! It used to be such a delight as a kid!"
Asked if, like many others, she also practises restraints in any way. She says, "Yes, 100%. I've really reduced having non-vegetarian in general, but for the next nine days... it's absolutely no non-veg food."
She adds, "Humare jo customs and rituals hai, they're there for a reason, and I think it's very important to know that. Right now, the weather is changing, and lighter khana khana is good for us. Chaahe woh fasting ho, ya wrat ho, ye saari aachi aadatein hain, but humein koi bachpan mein samjhata nahin. One thing I love is navratri food, the halwa poori, and chane. That is something I still do."
The 39-year-old strongly believes that besides worshipping Devi Maa, it is also important to be one with the sentiment and teachings....
