India, May 11 -- As former India fast bowler Salil Ankola is currently undergoing treatment for severe depression in a mental health care centre near Pune, his wife, Dr Ria Banerjee Ankola, opens up about the former national selector's ongoing treatment. Ria revealed that his depression was triggered by the loss of his father, followed by his mother's death in 2024. "Usko neend nahin aati thi. He understood that he was going through depression," she shares. Despite having sought counselling in 2012 for alcohol addiction, Salil initially hesitated to step away from work, but later followed medical advice to get admitted. Ria also emphasises that his "current phase is focused entirely on treating severe depression and emotional stress." "We, as a family, are very happy that he has chosen to take a break," Ria says, noting that, "He is recovering very well, and has even learnt to share a laugh. He will be back in no time to his first love, which was, is, and will always be cricket."...
