Rapperiya Baalam, Jagirdaar RV: Using Shoorveer for Munna Bhaiya is appalling
India, Sept. 8 -- While Mirzapur: The Movie continues its box-office run, Rajasthani musician brothers Rapperiya Baalam and Jagirdaar RV have accused its makers of using their track Shoorveer without permission.
The duo says they learnt about the song's inclusion after receiving congratulatory messages. "We had no idea till we started getting congratulatory messages for the song. It was then that we decided to check what had actually happened," RV tells us.
Their objection goes beyond the alleged lack of consent. The Shoorveer series comprises 10 songs honouring national heroes, with this track dedicated to Maharana Pratap. The brothers say using it for a character such as Munna Bhaiya, played by Divyenndu, is "appalling". "Music se hum history pahuncha rahe hain. Yeh kabhi bhi paison ke liye nahi banayi thi," RV says, adding that had the makers approached them, they would have offered to create a new track, but would have refused permission for this song given its context.
The musicians claim they contacted producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. "The makers refused to talk to us and said, 'Our team will connect with you on this.' What kind of attitude is this?"
Now, they are prepared to escalate the dispute: "If our genuine demand regarding our composition is not met, we will take legal action. Hum dharne par baithenge Farhan ji aur Ritesh ji ke gharon ke bahar."...
