India, July 8 -- Cricketer and reality TV personality Anaya Bangar, who transitioned from male to female after undergoing gender-affirming surgery in Thailand four months ago, recently took to Instagram to share a distressing account of a "traumatic medical session." In a candid conversation, Anaya revisited the harrowing experience she had to endure as part of the mandatory gender affirmation process in India. "Following my return from Thailand, I was required to undergo a government-mandated affirmation process to update my identity documents," shares the 25-year-old. For the mandatory gender affirmation process under the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026, Anaya was asked to visit a hospital where she was "expecting to meet a gynaecologist". "However, I was ushered into a room and was stunned when asked to undress in front of a team of doctors, including male and female. I thought perhaps only the female doctors would stay, and the rest would move out, but that didn't happen," she adds. It took Anaya three weeks to process the experience. "After talking to other members of the transgender community, I learned that this procedure is a standardised, albeit harrowing, part of the current system," she says, adding, "The trauma kept me from sharing the ordeal even with my family until recently." The incident left her reflecting on the indignities that her community often have to endure. "It breaks my heart that society still does not accept us the way we should be accepted; in fact, we are going backwards," she ends....
