India, May 7 -- Five supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were injured after a crude bomb attack in Panihati, police said on Thursday. The incident took place late on Wednesday night in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas, adding to rising political tension in the region.
What Happened in Panihati?
According to police, unidentified attackers on motorcycles hurled crude bombs at a group of BJP workers near St Xavier's Institution in Panihati. At least five people were injured in the explosion and were immediately taken to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Local reports said BJP workers were interacting with residents on Dutta Road in Ward No. 2 when the attackers struck suddenly and fled the scene.
