India, Aug. 16 -- Two AAICLAS security screeners were injured at Varanasi airport on Sunday after a passenger travelling to Mumbai with his wife fired a round while his declared weapon was being inspected.
Varanasi Airport Firing Incident
The incident took place at around 9:30 am on August 16, 2026, at Varanasi airport. The passenger was scheduled to travel to Mumbai on Air India Express flight IX-1810 and had declared a weapon for carriage.
During the mandatory weapons inspection, a round was fired from the weapon, injuring two AAICLAS screeners. Recent reports based on the airport authorities' statement confirm that the two employees were hurt during the inspection.
