Utah Weather Alert: Historic Red Flag Warning Signals Extreme Fire Danger; Affected Areas, Government Guidelines, Travel Advisory & Safety Measures
India, June 27 -- Utah is battling one of its most severe wildfire emergencies in recent history after the National Weather Service (NWS) in Salt Lake City issued its first-ever Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) Red Flag Warning. The unprecedented alert comes as the Cottonwood Fire, now the largest active wildfire in the United States, continues to spread rapidly under hot, dry and windy conditions.
The wildfire emergency has prompted Governor Spencer Cox to declare a state of emergency, temporarily restrict fireworks statewide through July 5, and urge residents and visitors to take extra precautions as dangerous fire weather continues across much of the state.
