India, July 20 -- The Indian stock market traded lower on Monday, with the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty remaining under pressure due to sharp declines in heavyweight private banking stocks. However, gains in PSU banks, metal, and pharmaceutical shares helped limit the overall losses. By 11:20 am, the Sensex had fallen 499.00 points (0.64%) to 77,652.45, while the Nifty 50 was down 118.80 points (0.49%) at 24,215.50. Despite the benchmark decline, overall market breadth remained nearly balanced, with 1,799 stocks advancing against 1,739 declining on the exchanges.
