India, Aug. 4 -- The Indian stock market witnessed a mixed and volatile session on Tuesday, with the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 moving in different directions after Monday's late-session rally, which was influenced by the introduction of the new Closing Auction Session (CAS) framework. The Nifty 50 declined 1.14% to 24,490.70, while the BSE Sensex was down 0.32% at 78,385.60 during trade. Earlier in the session, the BSE Sensex opened higher on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 79,132.97, gaining more than 490 points from its previous close of 78,639.03, before losing momentum as selling pressure emerged.
