India, Aug. 29 -- Nepal is facing fresh challenges in its massive flood rescue operation after heavy rainfall pushed up water levels in the Trishuli River, forcing authorities to temporarily suspend rescue activities and ground helicopter operations because of poor weather.

Officials have also started evacuating people living close to the rising river as a precautionary measure. The latest disruption comes as Nepal continues its search for survivors following the devastating flash floods that struck the Bhote Koshi-Trishuli corridor on August 26. The worsening conditions are particularly concerning because rescuers are still trying to reach people trapped or missing in remote areas and hydropower facilities.
