India, April 25 -- Microsoft has introduced its first-ever voluntary exit programme, offering employees an alternative to traditional layoffs. The scheme allows eligible staff to leave the company voluntarily in exchange for a structured severance package, marking a major shift in how the company is managing workforce restructuring.
Who Is Eligible for the Microsoft Buyout Offer?
As of June 2025, Microsoft had approximately 228,000 employees worldwide, including nearly 125,000 in the United States, according to its SEC filing. Based on this, nearly 8,750 US employees may qualify for the programme.
