India, July 26 -- Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed on July 26 every year, to commemorate the gallantry, sacrifice and devotion of the Indian Armed Forces during the 1999 Kargil war. This day symbolises the Indian victory during Operation Vijay to regain mountain locations on the LoC in the Kargil sector of Ladakh occupied by Pakistani infiltrators. The celebration is dedicated to the 527 soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces who martyred to secure the sovereignty of our nation and to millions of the militarymen whose brave operations unfolded in the battlefield under some of the toughest conditions in the world.
