FTSE Today: FTSE 100 Falls 0.5% as Oil Prices Rise; HSBC, Anglo American, Informa in Focus
India, Oct. 7 -- FTSE 100 index opened weakly on Wednesday, October 7, due to higher oil prices and concerns related to inflation and interest rates changes. At 8:45 am BST, FTSE 100 index fell by 0.5% to 10,493.04 while FTSE 250 index fell by 0.22% to 24,160.99.
The reason behind this is that the blue-chip index climbed by 0.42% to 10,541.69 points on Tuesday and thus sustained an upward trend for the last three trading days. This was due to lower oil prices and gilt yields.
This was due to renewed pressure caused by rising global bond yields and oil prices. The US 10-year Treasury yield stood at 5.32% while Brent crude recovered to above $101 per barrel. Higher yields make bonds more attractive compared to stocks as they increase borr...
