India, May 5 -- The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) defeated the incumbent Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the Kerala Assembly elections by winning 63 out of 140 seats. However, the alliance still needs seven more seats to reach the majority mark required to form the government. The CPI(M)-led LDF managed to secure 26 seats, while the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), a key UDF ally, won 22 seats, signaling the end of the LDF's rule in the state.
