India, April 19 -- The Union Cabinet has approved a 2% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees. This revision will be effective from January 1. Along with employees, pensioners will also benefit through a similar rise in Dearness Relief (DR), helping them manage rising living costs due to inflation.

The latest decision comes at a time when employee unions have been demanding wider salary reforms under the proposed 8th Pay Commission. The DA hike offers short-term financial relief, but discussions around long-term pay restructuring are gaining momentum.
