Bangladesh, Sept. 23 -- The welfare fee payable by Bangladeshi workers going abroad for employment has been increased from Tk 3,500 to Tk 5,500.

The Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment issued a circular on Sunday announcing the Tk 2,000 increase.

According to the circular, the welfare fee collected from workers going abroad, those already overseas or at airports has been revised to Tk 5,500. The revision was made in line with the expansion of welfare services for expatriate workers, efforts to strengthen their protection and overall welfare, and adjustments to the market value of the US dollar.
