Bangladesh, April 26 -- State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said the livestock sector is vital for strengthening the national economy and stressed the need for its further development.

"The government is giving the highest priority to this sector as it plays a crucial role in ensuring food security and increasing exports," he said while addressing a discussion marking World Veterinary Day-2026 at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) auditorium in the capital on Saturday, reports BSS.

The day is being observed with the theme "Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health." Highlighting food safety, the state minister said veterinarians are playing a key role in ensuring safe food for people.
