India, May 16 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 7 changed the display pictures on his social media handles to mark one year of Operation Sindoor and urged citizens to do the same as a tribute to the Armed Forces and their success. Launched by India on May 7, 2025, Operation Sindoor was a calibrated military response to the April 22 terror attack at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 civilians were killed. The operation had aimed to destroy cross-border terrorist infrastructure and deter further attacks by Pakistan-based outfits. The four-day operation involved coordinated action by the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy, ultimately leading to a ceasefire after nine terror-linked sites in Pakistan were successfully targeted.
