Kashmir-born filmmaker Arfat Sheikh detained by ICE in US
India, Oct. 8 -- Kashmir-born filmmaker Arfat Sheikh has been detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Virginia, according to a campaign seeking his release.
Sheikh, a resident of Alexandria, Virginia, was detained by ICE on September 24 after arriving at Dulles International Airport, the campaign, Free Arafat Sheikh, said.
According to the campaign, Sheikh is in the US on a student visa and is pursuing film studies at Georgia State University. It said he also has a pending immigration application.
The campaign alleged that ICE agents took Sheikh into custody shortly after he stepped off his flight, despite him presenting his immigration documents.
