SriLanka, April 12 -- The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) and Sri Lanka Railways have launched special services to meet the increasing demand of travellers during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

SLTB Chairman Sajeeva Kanakaratne told a media briefing that the special bus service which commenced from April 9 will continue till April 21. Outbound services from Colombo and the surrounding suburbs to outstation destinations will operate till April 13, while return journeys to Colombo are scheduled from April 15 to 21.

"Passenger volumes are expected to reach around 250,000 during this period," Kanakaratne said adding that 50 additional buses will be deployed to high-demand locations.
