Sri Lanka, Aug. 30 -- The Government is moving to make teaching a regulated profession, with teachers and other education professionals set to come under a new system of mandatory registration, professional licensing and quality assurance, Education Ministry officials told the Sunday Observer yesterday.

"It is fast-tracking legislation to establish an Education Council, with the Legal Draftsman now instructed to prepare the relevant Bill," Education Ministry Secretary Nalaka Kaluwewe said.
