SriLanka, March 15 -- An International Monetary Fund (IMF) team will visit the country this month to review the sixth tranche of financial aid, with a spotlight on energy sector reforms.

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has been unbundled into separate generation, transmission, and distribution units, a move aimed at boosting transparency, efficiency, and governance. Tariff adjustments have restored cost-recovery pricing, helping the CEB operate without chronic losses, while data management and financial discipline have been strengthened.

The reforms followed widespread trade union strikes, which were resolved after Government intervention. Over 16,000 workers have returned to the restructured companies.
