'Gas price cuts must reach consumers'
SriLanka, July 5 -- The benefits of recent LP Gas price reductions must be passed directly on to consumers, National Consumers' Front Convenor Asela Sampath said yesterday, describing it "unfortunate" that reductions in LP Gas prices had failed to translate into lower prices for bakery products, rice, and other essential food items.
He called on the Trade Ministry to introduce a mechanism to ensure that reductions in LP Gas prices are reflected in the prices of goods and services. He also requested the Opposition to present its own program and formula to safeguard consumer interests.
