Manila, Aug. 13 -- The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Thursday asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate and file appropriate charges against individuals behind a Facebook page and a website allegedly disseminating false information.

The cases were endorsed by the PCO's Anti-Fake News Desk (AFND), which identified the accounts as among those disseminating fabricated information, including during periods when the public was particularly vulnerable to misleading announcements.

One of the accounts presented itself as a satirical news page but allegedly went beyond legitimate satire by publishing what the PCO described as "malicious and misleading content."
