Imphal, Nov. 7 -- A local court in Manipur's Imphal East district on Friday (November 6, 2026) sentenced a 58-year-old man to rigorous life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for murdering his wife in 2013.

Sessions Judge Kh. Ajit delivered the verdict against the convict, identified as Md. Abdul Halim of Kwakta Khuman, following his conviction under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code on August 11.

The court ruled that the period of detention already served by the convict during the investigation and trial would be set off against his prison term.

The case stemmed from an incident on June 14, 2013, at the couple's rented residence in Golapati Maning Leikai Tangki Makhong.
