Imphal: The United Naga Council (UNC) has announced a 24-hour total shutdown across Naga-inhabited areas of Manipur from 6 am on June 11 to 6 am on June 12 following the recovery of the remains of six civilians who were abducted on May 13.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the UNC said hopes had risen among Naga communities after the release of 14 Kuki detainees on June 9. However, it said those expectations were shattered by reports that the six hostages had been recovered as human remains.

Condemning the incident, the council described it as a grave violation of human rights and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
