Imphal, July 9 -- Joint security forces arrested two active cadres of proscribed insurgent groups in separate operations across Manipur's valley districts on Thursday, recovering a 9 mm pistol, live ammunition and hand grenades.

According to Manipur Police, the arrested militants were allegedly involved in extortion, illegal arms supply and the planting of hand grenades in different parts of the valley.

In the first operation, security personnel apprehended an active cadre of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-PWG), identified as Angom Chingkheinganba Meitei (27), a resident of Umathel Makha Leikai in Kakching district. He was arrested near Aihang Village Gate under Waikhong Police Station.
