Imphal, Sept. 24 -- The newly registered People's Reformation Party (PRP) formally announced its formation on Thursday ahead of the 2027 Manipur assembly elections. The Election Commission of India's official website currently lists the PRP as a registered, unrecognised political party in the state.

The party was launched amid the continuing aftermath of the ethnic conflict that began in May 2023. Its 13-point manifesto focuses on peace, public order, territorial integrity, a "gun-free Manipur" and the welfare of internally displaced persons.

At the party's inaugural press interaction, PRP president Mangsatabam Andy said political change requires better governance and qualified representatives rather than simply new political faces.
