Manipur: Fast Track Court delivers verdict in 2012 minor assault case, awards 10-year sentence
Imphal, July 5 -- A Fast Track Court in Manipur has sentenced a 36-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 for raping a minor girl in October 2012. The court also recommended a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the survivor to support her rehabilitation.
The judgment was delivered on July 4, 2026, by Additional Sessions Judge Ashem Tarunakumari of the Fast Track Court in Imphal. The convict, Ningthoujam Bijen, had been found guilty under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on July 1.
Bijen, a resident of Moirang Ngangkha Lawai in Bishnupur district who was living at Konjeng Leikai Lanpoklakpam in Imphal West at the time of the offence, committed the crime at his place of residence. He ap...
