Imphal, Sept. 2 -- The eighth session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly commenced today with obituary references by sitting members to honour four former legislators.

Members across party lines expressed profound sorrow over the demise of Longjam Ningthemjao Singh (2-Heingang), K. Envey (43-Phungyar ST), Md. Maniruddin Sheikh (30-Lilong), and A.S. Arthur (44-Ukhrul ST).

Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh moved a resolution expressing deep grief over the loss.

The House unanimously adopted the resolution and observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
