Manipur: Demands for NRC update intensify ahead of Census operations
Imphal, Oct. 7 -- Calls for updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) before the commencement of census operations gained momentum in Manipur on Tuesday, with several indigenous communities and civil society organisations holding public campaigns and sit-in protests across the state.
At a public campaign held at Siangai Namdai Chiru village in Kangpokpi district, the Naga Coordinating Committee (Western Foothills Manipur) brought together members of the Chiru, Rongmei, Kom and Aimol communities. Participants called for a broader collective movement seeking an update of the NRC and measures to identify and deport illegal immigrants from the state.
