Imphal, Sept. 21 -- Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh announced on Monday that the 134-year-old Manipur Central Jail will undergo structural reconstruction and modernisation to address its poor condition.

The announcement came after the Chief Minister reviewed the condition of the Imphal-based facility. He also said the shortage of jail personnel would be addressed through an upcoming recruitment process.

The announcement coincided with the first Raising Day of the Prisons and Correctional Services Department. The event was held at Manipur Central Prison in Imphal to mark 134 years of service since the prison was established in 1892.
