Imphal, July 15 -- Amid Manipur's prolonged ethnic conflict, a women's organisation in Senapati district intervened to rescue a Kuki civilian detained by Naga youth volunteers, before escorting him safely back to his village in a gesture of compassion across ethnic divides.

The civilian, identified as 54-year-old Ngamsei Chongloi of Taphou Kuki village, had travelled to Senapati Bazaar with a Naga friend to buy fish when the two were intercepted by Naga youth volunteers. Chongloi was subsequently detained, according to local sources.
