TVK Stakes Claim to Form Government in Tamil Nadu
New Delhi, May 9 -- Chandrasekaran Joseph Vijay, chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar at Lok Bhavan on Friday and staked claim to form the government in Tamil Nadu.
Earlier in the day, the Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) extended unconditional support to TVK, backing the party's bid to form the next government in the state.
TVK emerged as the single-largest party in the April 23 Assembly elections, winning 108 seats in the 234-member House. However, the party fell short of the simple majority mark of 118 seats.
