New Delhi, Aug. 20 -- Russian ballistic missiles killed 13 people and injured more than 30 in the Kyiv region on Thursday, damaging buildings and cutting power in parts of the capital. One additional death occurred in the surrounding region.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed eight fatalities and 33 injuries in the city. A medical facility and an educational institution were among the sites struck by Russia.

Ukraine's air force had warned of incoming Kalibr missiles. Neighbouring NATO states responded, with Poland activating air defences and Romania scrambling jets after a drone entered its airspace.
