Nepal floods: Australia joins rescue efforts as toll hits 1,344
New Delhi, Sept. 5 -- Nepal's death toll from the devastating August 26 flash floods has risen to 1,344, as rescue and relief operations continue across the affected areas.
The floods swept away settlements and damaged key infrastructure, including roads, bridges and drinking water systems, while authorities are now facing concerns over contaminated water and the possible spread of diseases.
5 of 15 drinking water sources in flood-hit Bidur were found contaminated with E. coli, raising concerns about waterborne illnesses.
