New Delhi, April 7 -- Israel on Monday carried out fresh strikes on Iran, targeting its largest petrochemical complex, as tensions escalated over the Strait of Hormuz standoff.

The strikes hit the South Pars facility in Assaluyeh, a key hub accounting for a significant share of Iran's petrochemical output, with reports of multiple explosions at the site.

A senior Revolutionary Guards commander was also killed in separate strikes, further intensifying the conflict. Iran retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel as well as locations in the Gulf, and warned of "much more devastating" action if threats against its infrastructure continue.
