New Delhi, July 9 -- India on Wednesday expressed deep concern over the recent escalation of tensions in West Asia following fresh attacks targeting commercial shipping transiting international waterways in the region.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the developments risk undermining regional peace, security and stability.

The MEA called upon all parties to exercise restraint, de-escalate tensions and ensure the protection of civilians, while maintaining the uninterrupted flow of energy supplies and commercial shipping.

India also urged the parties to return to dialogue and diplomacy to achieve a peaceful and lasting solution to the conflict.
