New Delhi, Feb. 23 -- Co-hosts Sri Lanka collapsed to a disappointing 51-run defeat against England in their T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 clash in Pallekele earlier today. England rode on opener Phil Salt's half-century to post 146 for 9 in 20 overs.
Sri Lanka spinners Dunith Wellalage and Maheesh Theekshana starred with three and two wickets respectively. Chasing a below-par score, Sri Lanka got off to a disastrous start, losing five wickets in the powerplay.
England captain Harry Brook's decision to hand the new ball to Will Jacks worked wonders as he picked up three wickets.
Jofra Archer, Liam Dawson and Adil Rashid also took two wickets each as Sri Lanka were bundled out for just 95.
