New Delhi, April 15 -- Former Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has taken oath as the new Chief Minister of Bihar, becoming the first BJP leader to hold the post in the state.

The oath was administered by Governor Syed Ata Hasnain at Lok Bhawan in Patna.

Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav of the JD(U) were also sworn in as ministers and will serve as Deputy Chief Ministers.

Samrat Choudhary was elected leader of the BJP and NDA legislature parties a day earlier, following the resignation of Nitish Kumar, who is now a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha.
