New Delhi, April 22 -- Owing to a major rule change last year, some Social Security beneficiaries may see a boost in their income. In 2025, the Social Security Fairness Act did away with two provisions that reduced or eliminated benefits for over 2.9 million public servants.
The law repealed the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP), which impacted workers who received pension from jobs where Social Security taxes were not paid. It also eliminatated the benefits of the Government Pension Offset (GPO), which lowered or ended spousal and survivor benefits for people with public pensions from non-Social Security-covered jobs.
