New Delhi, Oct. 8 -- Films with strong social messaging, which emerged as a theatrical-friendly genre before the pandemic, have lost their draw at the box office. The failure of movies such as Daayra, Assi and Dhadak 2 shows the genre no longer attracts visits to the theatre even though many of these movies come with adult certification.

While considered better suited for streaming platforms, they are no longer buying such films the way and at prices they used to, making for a double whammy for these titles.

Kareena Kapoor Khan-starrer Daayra ended its theatrical run at slightly over Rs.5 crore in domestic box office collections. Taapsee Pannu's Assi earned about Rs.10 crore. In contrast, Article 15, centred on caste-based crimes and di...
