New Delhi, Oct. 14 -- The World Bank Group has helped mobilise USD 36 billion over the past four years for development across sectors, including efforts to boost investment and create jobs, with USD 9.6 billion channelled towards micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Private capital mobilisation by the group has grown nearly five-fold, from around USD 3 billion in FY22 to USD 14.5 billion in FY26, Manuel Reyes-Retana, Division Director, South Asia, International Finance Corporation (IFC), said.
He said guarantees provided by the IFC and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) were attracting institutional investors familiar with the World Bank Group's underwriting standards and governance practices.
The group connects government development priorities with private investment by strengthening markets, structuring viable projects and reducing risks through financing, guarantees and partnerships.
Under the USD 436-million Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) programme, the World Bank supported reforms to the Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS), a digital platform that helps businesses convert unpaid invoices into cash. The initiative has enabled more than 2.5 lakh MSMEs to access capital faster, with 30 non-banking financial companies joining the platform.
