Kolkata, Sept. 24 -- Websol Energy System Ltd said the West Bengal government has allotted about 54.20 acres at Falta Industrial Park, Kolkata, for its planned greenfield solar manufacturing facility.
The proposed facility will have 4 GW each of solar cell and module manufacturing capacity, to be developed in two phases of 2 GW each.
Websol said the land allotment followed an evaluation of locations near its existing manufacturing operations at the Falta Special Economic Zone. The expansion in West Bengal will leverage its more than three decades of operating experience in the state, including access to skilled manpower, supplier relationships and an established local ecosystem.
The facility will create a larger integrated manufacturing base for Websol in eastern India as domestic solar manufacturing capacity expands to meet rising renewable energy requirements.
Sohan Lal Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director, Websol Energy System Ltd, said the land allotment marked "the next phase of a journey that began more than three decades ago in West Bengal" and would allow the company to build at a significantly larger scale.
Sanjana Khaitan, Executive Director, Websol Energy System Ltd, said the focus would now be on execution, from land allotment to construction, commissioning and utilisation, with growth measured by how efficiently capacity translates into production, delivery and revenue.
