New Delhi, Oct. 28 -- Asian Para Games gold medallist Neeraj Yadav has died by suicide after allegedly consuming poison, with police investigating the circumstances surrounding his death amid reports that he was under emotional distress following a doping suspension and the end of a friendship with a woman.
Yadav's body was taken to Delhi's GTB Hospital for a postmortem examination on Wednesday. Jafrabad Police are conducting proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
According to a senior police officer, the woman who took Yadav to hospital told investigators that they had been friends since December 2025. She had travelled to Sonipat in Haryana on Tuesday to meet him and reportedly told him that she could no longer remain in contact with him.
Yadav subsequently dropped her at Maujpur in Delhi in his Scorpio. Around 9 pm, she became suspicious and returned to the area near Gate No. 1 of Maujpur Metro Station, where she found him lying on the road beside his vehicle. She took him to hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Police said Yadav was running an online sports academy, Anshneer Sports Academy, in Sonipat. He was married and is survived by his wife and three-year-old daughter. Indian para-athletics head coach S Satyanarayana confirmed the death and said he had remained in contact with Yadav since the doping case emerged following the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Para Games.
Yadav was serving a four-year suspension for doping. The Asian Paralympic Committee subsequently stripped him of the two gold medals he had won in javelin and discus, costing him the associated cash reward and prospects of a government job.
