
Siliguri, July 16 -- The SIT Challengers Cup 2026, an inter-school football tournament organised by the Siliguri Institute of Technology (SIT), got off to an exciting start on Tuesday with three action-packed matches. The tournament features 16 schools from across the region and will conclude with the grand finale on July 23.
In the opening match, Salbari High School defeated St. Joseph's School 3-1. Md. Mumtaj starred with a brilliant brace and was named Man of the Match, while Rohit Oraon added the third goal. Rishab Chettry scored the lone goal for St. Joseph's School.
The second fixture saw Delhi Public School (DPS) edge past DAV School 2-1. Darahil Gurung and Nolden Thinley scored for DPS, while Soumyadeep Debnath netted the only goal for DAV.
In the day's final match, Krishnamaya Memorial Nepali High School secured a convincing 3-1 victory over BSF Kadamtala. Gourav Kurmi, who scored once and played a key role throughout the game, was adjudged the Man of the Match.
The opening day witnessed enthusiastic participation from players and strong support from spectators, setting the tone for an exciting tournament ahead. Organised by SIT, the competition aims to encourage sportsmanship, teamwork and football
excellence among school students while providing a competitive platform to showcase young talent.
The tournament will continue over the coming days before culminating in the final on July 23.
