New Delhi, Oct. 26 -- SBI has inaugurated CyRIS, a Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence, bringing cyber policy, training, innovation, research, threat intelligence & cyber defence under one platform to boost digital resilience in the financial sector.

The centre was inaugurated by Sanjay Lohiya, Secretary, Department of Financial Services, in the presence of SBI Chairman Challa Sreenivasulu Setty.

CyRIS aims to help SBI anticipate emerging cyber threats, respond faster and strengthen intelligence-led cybersecurity. Its three pillars - THINK, INNOVATE and DEFEND - focus on cyber policy, talent development, awareness, research, innovation and defence preparedness.

Under THINK, the centre will strengthen cyber policy, the cyber academy and citizen-centric awareness initiatives. INNOVATE will promote research, benchmarking and new solutions, while DEFEND will focus on cyber defence, threat intelligence and resilience.

The centre will work on digital safety areas, including digital forensics, malware analysis, ethical hacking, fraud analytics, artificial intelligence security and quantum-safe technologies. It will also encourage collaboration among government and regulatory bodies, financial institutions, fintech companies, academia and technology partners.

"Cybersecurity is fundamental to customer trust and the resilience of our digital financial ecosystem. CyRIS will strengthen our ability to anticipate emerging threats and stay ahead of the evolving cyber landscape," Setty said. During FY26, nearly 1.81 lakh bank employees completed mandatory cybersecurity e-learning, supported by customer awareness initiatives on digital safety and fraud prevention.
