Chandigarh, Sept. 3 -- Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday paid obeisance at Gurdwara Sri Katalgarh Sahib in Chamkaur Sahib, Punjab, and prayed for the prosperity of Haryana's people and stronger bonds of brotherhood between Haryana and Punjab.
Saini announced Rs 21 lakh for the construction of a historic gate to be named after Amar Shaheed Bibi Sharan Kaur, who performed the last rites of Sahibzadas Baba Ajit Singh and Baba Jujhar Singh following their martyrdom in 1704.
Addressing the Sangat, Saini described Chamkaur Sahib as a symbol of sacrifice, courage, service and resilience. He said Bibi Sharan Kaur's valour and selfless service demonstrated that women have always played a significant role in serving society and defending its values.
The Chief Minister said the younger generation should be taught the history and sacrifices of the Sikh Gurus and martyrs. He also highlighted initiatives by the Haryana government, including a Rs 100-crore Sikh Museum in Kurukshetra to spread the teachings of the Gurus.
Saini said his government had fulfilled 70 of its 217 election commitments within one-and-a-half years. He said Rs 2,000 crore had been transferred to women's accounts under the proposed Rs 2,100 monthly assistance scheme.
