Chandigarh, Sept. 2 -- Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said a detailed survey should be conducted to understand the background of less-educated youth and a report should be prepared and submitted.
Based on the findings, an effective action plan should be implemented for their holistic development.
Chief Minister Saini was chairing a meeting on Wednesday during which presentations were made on good practices adopted by various departments. Chief Secretary, Anurag Rastogi, Additional Chief Secretaries Sudhir Rajpal, Sumita Misra, G Anupama, AK Singh and Vijayendra Kumar, along with several other senior officers, were present at the meeting.
The Chief Minister was informed that under the skill development programme in prisons, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) are being run in five jails of the state to equip inmates with skills that would enable them to start their own livelihood ventures after their release. One-year training has been provided in eight different trades, with 123 inmates having completed their ITI courses. In addition, short-term vocational courses of up to three months are being conducted in 20 jails, in which 1,604 inmates have registered.
The meeting was informed that 3,321 inmates have also been registered under the ULLAS programme in prisons for further education. Similarly, enrolments have been made under educational programmes to provide education through IGNOU and NIOS.
It was further informed that, according to the educational profile of the prison population, there are 3,346 uneducated youth in various jails of the state. The Chief Minister directed that a detailed survey of such youth be conducted to ascertain the reasons behind their low level of education.
